Worcester

I have just spent two days in Worcester, a city I’ve only visited previously during the winter. Although parts of it still clearly suffer from the unmistakeable, building style of the 1960s, none the less, there are areas that are quite charming and my strolls around following a couple of historic trails helped me discover some of those. One particular little gem was Greyfriars House and its beautiful gardens; a little oasis in the midst of shopping hustle and bustle.  And then there was King Charles’ House, from where King Charles II escaped after the Battle of Worcester in 1651

Worcester

Occasionally, I visit some previously “undiscovered” places with work, and this week included an overnight in Worcester.  I’ve visited the office before but as it’s close to the motorway, never had the time or opportunity to explore the town.  On this occasion, I still only had an hour in the evening and a walk through on my way to work but it was enough to get a feeling that it’s a place I want to revisit.  Thanks to geocaching, I could target my limited time to places that appealed to my  love of social history, including……. the Worcestershire sauce factory!

Worcester

Andy has gone to Worcester today for a meeting.  It isn't a city we're overly familiar with apart from its historic associations with the English Civil War and manufacture of porcelain so it'll be great if he finds time to have a look around. I always think it's a great pity to visit somewhere and never discover the true essence of the place. It's something that often happens with residential work events when you are lucky to escape the inside of an anodyne hotel. Hopefully Andy will feel inspired enough to see something other than the inside of a pub!
